The chassis is based on the Courage Compétition C65 Le Mans Prototype that Mazda last used to compete in the American Le Mans Series, two seasons previously[3] and is designed to use E100 ethanol fuel, it is powered by a new generation 20B 3-rotor wankel engine that puts out 450 brake horsepower (340 kW). The engine is developed and built by renowned rotary tuner, Racing Beat, who also built the car's rotary-shaped muffler canister.[6]<br />The car bears the #55 number that of its 1991 24 Hours of Le Mans winning ancestor, the 787B. Unlike many concept cars, the Furai is fully functional and is currently being tested at various tracks. It has run at Laguna Seca and Buttonwillow.<br />Head designer, Laurens van den Acker, has stated in an interview with Top Gear magazine that there are possibilities of the Furai being used for racing in Le Mans, and he also has strong hopes that the car could be brought to the market.[7]<br />The 2008 Mazda Furai has licensed to Gameloft and appears on the mobile racing video game series Asphalt (both Asphalt 6: Adrenaline and Asphalt 7: Heat) and GT Racing: Motor Academy. In the mobile racing video game GT Racing: Motor Academy, it costs 3,500 cash making it the most expensive car in the game.<br />he Mazda Hakaze Concept, is a concept car that was revealed in early February 2007. Its major design elements come from a new design language developed by Mazda called Nagare, developed by Laurens van den Acker, Mazda Global Design Director. It translates to "flow". This element has been used on past Mazda concept cars such as: Mazda Nagare; Mazda Ryuga; Mazda Kabura.<br />The Mazda Ryuga is a concept car introduced by Mazda and partner Ford Motor Company at the 2007 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan. The car, along with the Mazda Nagare which was introduced at the Greater Los Angeles Auto Show, is an exploratory design study intended to illustrate future styling directions for future Mazda passenger vehicles. This one is called Karai, which according to the company is Japanese for ‘sharp’, and it comes to us from Mazda’s European division.</span></span><br /><span style="font-family: Verdana;">The Karai is based on the MX-5 Roadster coupe, which means it is fitted with a retractable hardtop. It boasts a unique lime-green paint called “Metal Green Metallic” for the body and contrasting glossy black finish for metal top, exterior mirrors, trim accents such as the front grille and fog lamp surrounds, as well as the 17-inch multispoke alloy wheels that are shod in low profile performance tires.</span><br /><a href="http://carscoop.blogspot.com/2011/07/thelime-lantern-mazdas-special-edition.html" name="more" style="color: #990000; text-decoration: none;"></a><span style="font-family: Verdana;">On the inside, the MX-5 Karai features a pair of Recaro sport seats trimmed in black leather and Alcantara with white stitching, aluminum pedals, leather steering wheel with white stitching while Mazda says all the interior trim pieces that are usually finished in silver are now painted in a glossy black color.</span><br /><span style="font-family: Verdana;">Power comes from the stock 2.0-liter four-cylinder petrol engine delivering 160-horses, with Mazda also offering an optional sport package that includes an exhaust system, a lowering kit for the suspension plus a few more goodies such an iPod and USB adapter, and an exclusive set of floor mats.</span><br /><span style="font-family: Verdana;">Mazda said it plans to build 165 examples of the Karai for Germany, with prices starting at €30,000 (US$43,500). Most of the fun of the Mazda 3 is here, only with about 500 extra pounds. That mindset is evident even in the slushbox-equipped 5 that we tested. More important, its mere availability is a reminder that Mazda is one of the few brands that continues to cater to people who care about driving.<br /><br /> A Mazda 5 with a manual would be quicker, of course, and less expensive, too—the manual is only available in the $19,990 Sport model. When’s the last time you wanted to wring anything but your own neck in a minivan? All of the controls and responses are in harmony, making it easy (and fun) to wring the most out of the Mazda 5. Turn the steering wheel and the front tires change your path without delay.<br /><br /> The Mazda 5 handles better than the meager steady-state cornering figure of 0.81 g would suggest. It’s far from blistering, but 0.4 second quicker to 60 than before. On the test track, the new vanlet runs from 0 to 60 mph in nine seconds flat and covers the quarter-mile in 17.1 at 82 mph. Highway fuel economy inches up 1 mpg to 28, although our as-tested result of 23 is closer to the 21-mpg city figure.<br /><br /> Torque increases 15 lb-ft to 163 and also tops out 500 rpm lower, at 4000. Compared to the outgoing 2.3-liter, the 2.5 has 4 more hp—157—at a power peak 500 rpm earlier, at 6000. Four-Cylinder 5 Under the hood, the Mazda 5 freshens up with a 2.5-liter inline-four similar to that in the 3, 6, and CX-7. A C-Max equipped like the 5 tested here should price out similarly. We do expect, however, that such options would push the C-Max’s sticker well above the 5’s maximum.<br /><br /> On the C-Max, for example, Ford plans to offer everything but the kitchen sink—Ford Sync will be available, though—including power side doors and a power hatch. We’re still a little bit skeptical of this plan when the big players in the small-car field are offering more luxury and features than the segment has ever seen before. Noticeably absent is the option for navigation, as Mazda says its customers would rather buy a $100 portable nav unit than suffer the higher price of a factory piece. Inside, the same three-row, six-passenger seating configuration remains. In the back, horizontal taillights replace the vertical stalks of the old 5.<br /><br /> And its sides now feature the “sand ripple” creases first seen on the Nagare concept car. The 5 gets new front styling with a smiley-face grille, just like those on the Mazda 2 and 3. Suspiciously similar stowage aside, the vans at least look nothing alike. In the C-Max, it’s the middle seat that folds in exactly the same way. They’re clearly different vehicles, as evidenced by the Mazda’s second-row center console that folds into the right-side seat bottom.<br /><br /> Although both vehicles can trace their underpinnings back to the same Ford global C-platform, neither company admits to much collusion. No Hiding the Stowaway But wait, isn’t this the same pitch Ford gives for the upcoming C-Max? The fully loaded Grand Touring model we tested—sunroof, automatic xenon headlights, heated power mirrors, Sirius satellite radio, leather seats (heated in front)—comes in under the magic $25,000 limbo stick, at $24,670. Mazda says this mini-minivan is aimed at young families looking to move up from an economy car but who don’t want the high sticker price or sluggish handling of a bigger van—given that narrow niche, the 5 would probably sell in small numbers even if it did receive marketing support.<br /><br /> Unfortunately, the van tested here was equipped with an automatic. For those buyers enlightened enough to spec a manual transmission in their tiny van—only about 5 percent of U.S 5 adopters—the 5’s five-speed is replaced by a six-speed for 2012. So let us reintroduce the Mazda 5, which has been updated for the 2012 model year with new sheetmetal, a new engine, and a new dash. Chrysler sold as many Town & Country minivans every two months last year, but Mazda’s is still an impressive feat considering that the 5 has almost zero marketing support.
